New Jersey Quaker Parrots - Monk Parakeets

These beautiful birds are not indigenous to New Jersey, from what I have read they are escapees from JFK customs, there are many different stories out there as to how they got here. Non the less there are many huge colonies of these beautiful birds in Edgewater. Spent over an hour watching these beautiful creatures. There have been many attempts by the power company to remove the birds, but the city of Edgewater put a stop to that, plus the locals I spoke with today really love these and will not tolerate their eradication I know some of my contacts here in Jersey have more knowledge on these, please feel free to add notes with any more information :)

I've been wanting to take pictures of birds for a while now for my pic of the day 32/265. There are a flock of finches that hang out in my neighbor's shrubbery. I was trying to get pictures of them when I heard this high chirping sound and noticed this little guy in one of the trees. I watched him make his way to the feeder and tried desperately to get closer and closer without scaring him away.

The male kingfisher is visiting at the small stream in front of my home. I stop breath and walk slowly and finally got this picture. This picture is used in en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Common_kingfisher
