While trying to get shots of this Red-tailed Hawk, a Blue Jay comes into the picture and chases my subject off. Treated with Halo in HDR to hi-lite detail. Hawk exits, stage right, ahhh, he was gonna leave anyway,, right?

Cedar Waxwings - Birds seen out the window at the UNT Discovery Park. Anybody know what these are? Taken on a dark, windy day through a dirty tinted window with a slow lens while talking on the phone. The picture almost has a lensbaby feel to it. [Update: These are Cedar Waxwings per mixternaxal.]

Our cockatiel, Spoots, likes to help me out when I am online, and he has the ability to make very strange things appear on my computer's monitor. He also enjoys nibbling at the keyboard, and for some reason displays a definite and strong partiality toward the arrow keys, which he would probably chew at for hours on end if I would let him. I know this is crazy -- but after all, it is a cockatiel we are talking about here, and craziness is therefore par for the course. When I took this picture, I was on Flickr, trying to read a discussion thread in the "Handwriting Meme" group. I took two pictures, both of which are being uploaded to Flickr tonight; then I returned Spoots to his cage in order to prevent any sudden interruption of the uploading process.

The first one of the year for me, and my best views of it to date. It was either displaying, or establishing a territory in the picture below, or both maybe. Absolutely great to watch. They remind me a little of Dartford Warblers a bit. :)

These beautiful birds are not indigenous to New Jersey, from what I have read they are escapees from JFK customs, there are many different stories out there as to how they got here. Non the less there are many huge colonies of these beautiful birds in Edgewater. Spent over an hour watching these beautiful creatures. There have been many attempts by the power company to remove the birds, but the city of Edgewater put a stop to that, plus the locals I spoke with today really love these and will not tolerate their eradication I know some of my contacts here in Jersey have more knowledge on these, please feel free to add notes with any more information :)

I've been wanting to take pictures of birds for a while now for my pic of the day 32/265. There are a flock of finches that hang out in my neighbor's shrubbery. I was trying to get pictures of them when I heard this high chirping sound and noticed this little guy in one of the trees. I watched him make his way to the feeder and tried desperately to get closer and closer without scaring him away.
