In Flight
This was taken the same day as another photo I posted earlier. In the other one, there were out of focus ducks above the egret. I flipped this one horizontally, which I think gives it a slightly different dynamic. Like all photographs it looks best large. Press "L" to see it large on a dark background. Other pictures of birds and critters plus infrared landscapes can be seen in my Santee Lakes set. ..... www.flickr.com/photos/9422878@N08/sets/72157627547766547/...
Mallard Colors and Textures

When I was taking pictures of mallard ducks at Santee Lakes this afternoon. I was struck by the abstract beauty in the patterns, textures and colors of the feathers of the male. Like all photographs, it looks best large. Press "L" to see it large on a dark background. Other pictures of birds and critters plus infrared landscapes can be seen in my Santee Lakes set. ..... www.flickr.com/photos/9422878@N08/sets/72157627547766547/...
Klamath Hills
Me at the Klamath Hills (a couple of years ago) - a nice place to hike just a few miles South of Klamath Falls, Oregon. I remember this hike well - we hiked up to the top of that hill in dense fog but when we arrived at the top the fog cleared revealing this lovely view of K Falls in the distance. Also note the birds flying by. This is actually a upland game bird hunting reserve but usually a nice place for a hike. Photo by Marty.
Corvus impluviatus and/or Corvus viriosus

The Hawaiian Islands once had three distinct crows (Corvus). One species remains and it is extremely rare, the Hawaiian crow or Ê»alalÄ (Corvus hawaiiensis). The other two are extinct. These fossils represent one or two of the Slender-billed crow (Corvus viriosus) and the Deep-billed crow (C. impulviatus). Pictured is a variety of "wing" and "leg" bones. These specimens came from the Barber's Point sinkholes, OÊ»ahu,Hawaiian Islands. Identified by the late Alan C. Ziegler in 1992.
Redtail Hawk 1

This hawk was sitting on a service pole in our driveway. There were two of them. I took this picture first.
