Lugar: Finca La Pomarrosa. Place: Finca La Pomarrosa. This species is a migrant very common in Barlovento that suddendly appears in May and stay up to November-December. It is very difficult to differentiate Sporophila females in field; the best way is by finding males and females feeding together, like was the case when this picture was taken. (P.S.: This is the first picture of a female of this species posted in Flickr).

that was unexpected. I sat down to rest and this guy started walking up and down a fallen log and then whistled and flew away. I've no damnedest idea why these images turned out as JPG (the ones right before and after these are RAW all right). Also saw a black kite chasing a heron and discovered a mesotrophic bog with large Sphagnum pads (among other interesting Bryophyta goodies) - all within a 15 minute bike ride from my home :) i'm geotagging the picture to the center of Akademgorodok - just in case.

This beautiful bird was showing off his flying skills at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park. Other pictures taken at Safari Park are here. www.flickr.com/photos/9422878@N08/sets/72157628351207247/... Like most photographs, it looks best when viewed large. Press "L" to test my theory.

Willie Wagtail.....the pair of nesting Rhipidura leucophrys outside one of my bedroom windows have a birth announcement today. All is well. Rick took this shot super quick while the parents were gone shopping. (no, he didn't touch the nest or branch). Its all very exciting to be able to watch them from the window. Breeding season: mainly August to February; can nest all year round Clutch size: 3 Incubation: 14 days Time in nest: 14 days Its hard to believe that in 14 days they will be flying about. Must take a picture from the window everyday. This is what they sound like : www.birdsinbackyards.net/images/audio/rhipidura-leucophry...
