THE THREE TENORS

I'm pleased as punch with getting three cock song birds together, each of a different species: here we have a Redpoll, a Siskin and a Goldfinch. Actually, I'm not too positive about the gender of the Goldfinch but for the sake of the title to the picture it's a male!

The Morning After I Saw You For The First Time.

These summer blues crept in slow and made my skin home despite my best efforts. I took this picture the morning after I saw you for the first time since I had roused you from my bed with my lips pressed against your forehead. The blunt-force collision of feather and bone against glass broke the morning in two; stillness for a space then time caught back up again (such things happen when we are so abruptly witness to mortality). The grey catbird lie broken on the mossy brick and I gently lifted the bird into my palm, thinking of how the sharp thwack that was grey catbird striking window felt akin to the sharp intake of breath I had experienced when I opened that door and saw you for the first time since I had whispered “I love you” into every angle of your body. When I could no longer to feel the beat of the bird’s heart in my hand I buried it and let go. just let go.

1/1000, f8, 100mm, 200 F:\Photography\Bold Experimentation I selected my niece out of picture that had a bad background. Then I placed her in this picture with a sky background and a bird beside her. Last I added some test and flattened the image. I wanted this picture to give you the feel that she is trying to fly.

Spoots in profile

I used our pet cockatiel, Spoots, as the subject for another experiment with my new 50mm f/1.8 Nikkor lens. This picture and its companion were both taken with available lighting, and turned out quite well. Here Spoots is perched atop Oochie's cage, which is one of his favorite places, although Oochie himself always resents the presence of the newer bird. I discovered some time ago that Spoots no longer wants to perch on my finger and let me bring him out of his cage; instead, he prefers to do it all himself. (Ceci was the same way.) So now, when it is obvious that he wants to be let out for awhile, I simply open the door of the cage, and within a minute or so, Spoots will usually just climb out and go about his business.
