Nice Bird Picture photos

Parrot on Blue Background

I took this picture in Maryland the day before I ran a 13 mile "half marathon". A woman was set up on a sidewalk with rescued parrots that you could pose with for "a donation". I didn't have have my wallet on me. But I couldn't let this opportunity go by. To be fair, I only took this ONE shot!

Black-necked Grebe; Podiceps nigricollis

Not a good photo of this extremely beautiful bird. But it was rather difficult to take a picture of its black feathers against the bright morning sun and on the sparkling water. My friend Matvey discovered this grebe on Vyrlitsa lake in Kiev, Ukraine and informed me. A few days later I visited the lake and saw it too - a pair of them, along with a lot of Great Crested Grebes.

Elbie Jaye

Our parakeet, Elbie. Her full name is Elbie Jaye. And yes, she is named after the 36th President of the United States. We acquired Elbie rather unexpectedly last September. Our former bishop -- the LDS equivalent of a local pastor or parish priest -- lives about a block away from us. One night his wife called my wife, Sheila, and asked if we would be interested in taking in another bird. (We already had two cockatiels.) They had found this one in their yard earlier in the day and were trying to find it a permanent home. Sheila asked if anyone else had been considered for the honor, and was told no. When I came home, she told me the foregoing story, and asked what I thought; I said that we already had two birds, so one more would make no difference. Truth is, I never considered NOT taking her in, although there are times I feel a bit like Thidwick the Big-Hearted Moose. That night we bought a cage and the necessary accessories, and it took us about three months to come up with a suitable name for the newcomer. We tried several names that didn't stick, but I am a history buff, and finally came up with this name, which did stick. Elbie spends most of the day chirping and singing loudly, even as she is locked in mortal combat with the colorful mobile that hangs in her cage. She is extremely timid, however -- a fact captured in this picture, in which she is eyeing me rather suspiciously. I took two other pictures of her today, which are not posted because Elbie's eye was obscured by the bars on her cage. Here, the bars sort of highlight her eye, which was focused intently on me the whole time I was taking pictures of her. I do not know anything about Elbie's political views, but she has thus far registered no objection to the name I gave her.

I thought he said: 'Mo pictures!'

Redhill Wildlife Centre - Mar 2011 - Robin Singing for his Breakfast

BEST SEEN IN ITS ORIGINAL SIZE IF YOU WANT TO SEE THE BIRD IN ALL ITS GLORY. After 4 months of unrelenting gray skies finally this week the day dawned clear and bright so I decided to get out into our top garden and take a look to see what was around. Every morning my garden fills with birds awaiting my trip to the feeders to fill them with all the things they enjoy. They were a bit disappointed when I passed by them and walked up the steps to the sycamore but they did not despair and they just hung about in the trees awaiting my pleasure. For my efforts i was rewarded with two beautiful pictures I thought you might enjoy. This one is of a beautiful Robin singing his little heart out to encourage me to fill the feeders. Brightened using Picnik 07/01/12 after 236 views.
